Mahinog (10 June) — DILG Provincial Director Nilo P. Castañares will keynote this year’s 111th Philippine Independence Day celebration in Mahinog, Camiguin on June 12.
To ensure a successful celebration, Mayor Alex R. Jajalla today issued Executive Order No. 11 enjoining all elected officials, heads of offices and government employees of local and national agencies, barangay officials, SKs, private sectors, NGOs and people’s organizations as well as the general public to participate and give full support and cooperation to this celebration.
In line with the theme “Kagitingan, Kagalingan at Kasipagan, Tungo sa Tunay na Kalayaan,” the program will start at 8:00 in the morning with an Invocation by the Mahinog National High School Glee Club and Flag raising to be conducted by Mrs. Violeta V. Legitimas and the Philippine National Police.
Mahinog Mayor Alex R. Jajalla will give his welcome remarks while Provincial Board Member Jesus D. Pacuribot will deliver the “Kalayaan” message.
Mahinog Union of Municipal Employees (MUME) president Neolida P. Salon will introduce the Keynote Speaker.
Other highlight will be the mass wreath-laying at the statue of Dr. Jose Rizal to be led by local officials, department heads, government employees and representatives from all sectors of society.
Intermission numbers will be given by 2009 singing champion Ms. Leticia Lacre; Columbia St. Michael’s Parish High School; Mahinog National High School; Mahinog Central School and Hubangon Women’s Association.
A closing remark will be given by Vice Mayor Rogerio C. Acle.
Prior to the program, there will be a parade which will start at seven in the morning.
During this celebration, the Municipal Government in coordination with all barangay councils will have a massive planting of Malunggay tree at every barangay.
Earlier, the Municipal Council passed a resolution encouraging every household to plant malunggay tree in their backyard. The same program is also implemented by the provincial government of Camiguin. The resolution was authored by councilor Liberato E. Babanto,
Study revealed how versatile and nutritious Malunggay vegetable is, which is considered the queen of all vegetables at the same time a miracle tree that contains Vitamins A, B and C and has more on calcium, niacin, thiamine and phosphorous, the resolution stated.
Malunggay could be the solution to the chronic malnutrition problem in the Philippines and if every household can plant Malunggay seedlings in their backyard then malnutrition will be greatly minimized considering the nutritional value of Malunggay, it added. (Mahinog Municipal Information Office)
