Mahinog opposition hopefuls file CoC

Mahinog, Camiguin –The political pot begins to boil here as local opposition formally filed their certificates of candidacy (CoC), a day after candidates from ruling Lakas-Kampi party filed their CoC for the upcoming May 10, 2010 elections.

On the last day of filing on December 1, Sosino Paderanga, a former administration ally, formally filed his CoC for mayoral post while Mamerto Paje, a long time opposition, filed his candidacy as Paderanga’s running mate. They will be running under the Liberal Party (LP).

Paderanga will face incumbent Mayor Alex Jajalla while Paje against incumbent Vice Mayor Rogerio Acle of Lakas-Kampi.

Paderanga, a former municipal councilor for one term, ran for reelection but lost in 2007. Paje, a former municipal secretary, ran for Mahinog mayor but lost to then mayor Jesus Pacuribot in the 1992 elections.

Paderanga’s ticket for municipal council will include Geronimo “Gers” Abao, Anita Abao, Oscar Calo, Alvin Madelo, Magdalena Acero, Paz Echano Pulvera, Ramil Galario and Mannie Kho. They will be running under Liberal Party except for Kho who registered himself as Nationalista Party (NP) candidate.

In the province, lawyer Florencio Narido Jr. from Liberal Party will be running against re-electionist Congressman Pedro P. Romualdo of Lakas-Kampi-CMD for the lone congressional seat of Camiguin. An independent candidate by the name Melvin Bullecer also filed his candidacy for the congressional post.

Rogelio Gallardo, a businessman and brother of former Governor Antonio Gallardo of the Liberal Party will run for governor against incumbent Gov. Jurdin Jesus M. Romualdo. Running with Gallardo is Juan Margarito “Johnny” Neri who will face incumbent Vice Governor Leo G. Lasacar. A third candidate for the vice gubernatorial post is Nicolas Vicente Ello who registered as independent.

In Mambajao town, the capital of Camiguin, Noordin Efigenio “Gogo” Romualdo, brother of Gov. JJ Romualdo, will run against his brother's wife incumbent Mayor Maria Luisa "Baby" Romualdo, for the mayoralty post. (Mahinog IO)
