Mahinog contingent reigns in 2009 Camiguin Lanzones Festival



CONTINGENTS from the Municipality of Mahinog won the tableau competition of this year’s Camiguin Lanzones Festival in Mambajao, Camiguin, besting 7 other contingents.

The Mahinog contingent impressed thousands of spectators including Cebu City Mayor Tomas Osmeña who witnessed the tableau competition of the Camiguin Lanzones Festival, one of the grandest and colorful festivals in the Philippines.

The Mahinog contingent, represented by the students from Columbia St. Michael’s Parish High School, also regained its third consecutive win in the street dancing competition.

Camiguin Congressman Pedro P. Romualdo who was also impressed by Mahinog’s performance said it was “the best performance ever” in the 30 years of Camiguin Lanzones Festival.

The other winners in the tableau competition were: the previous year’s champion Yumbing National High School, 2nd place; Camiguin Polytechnic State College, 3rd place.

In street dancing category, the other winners were: Fatima College of Camiguin, 2nd place; Yumbing National High School, 3rd place.

Mahinog also bagged the Mutya sa Buahanan 2009 title in the person of Miss Ivy Mirzi T. Javier, the reigning Miss Mahinog 2009.

The other awards received by Mahinog contingent were: Best in Festival Queen Individual Showdown (Bea H. Reyes); Festival Queen, 2nd placer; Best in Festival Queen Headdress; Diwata Showdown, 2nd placer; Music Showdown, 2nd placer.

In Kalanrakas sa Camiguin 2009, Mahinog Central School, 2nd place while Pontod, Mahinog Elementary School, 3rd place. 1st place went to Mambajao Central School. The liveliest contingent went to Mahinog Central School who was also 3rd placer in Kalanrakas Queen.

“This is one shining moment in the history of Mahinog,” Mayor Alex R. Jajalla quickly said when asked how he felt for Mahinog having emerged as the grand champion in this year’s Lanzones Festival.
