Mahinog Central School receives Gulayan sa Paaralan Project Award

MAHINOG Central School was recently adjudged by the Provincial Government as Model School and Best Implementor for Gulayan sa Paaralan Project.

Dr. Rosario M. Viñan, school principal, receives the award from Camiguin Congressman Pedro P. Romualdo during the Camiguin Day awarding ceremony held at Camiguin Sports Complex last January 7, 2012.

The award honors successful models and programs in agriculture among public schools in the province.

The school worked hard to win the award. It was made possible through the collaborative efforts led by the principal along with the support of the teaching staff, general PTA officers and stakeholders.

The school was evaluated based on criteria used to assess school performance. The award, which brought honor to the entire district of Mahinog, has made the school a show window in school vegetable garden projects.

MCS Contester vies for national competition

SHANDA Eve R. Popera grade IV pupil of Mahinog Central School won 2nd place in the Regional Science Quiz 2011 held at People’s Palace, Balingasag, Misamis Oriental on November 11-13, 2011.

The competition was participated in by 28 contestants coming from the 14 divisions of region X.

Top two winners of the said contest will qualify for the national competition slated on February 3-5, 2012 in Baguio City.

“At last I have become a coach to the national competition and have a chance to go to Baguio City” Mrs. Susana T. Pabillore, the coach, said.

CSMPHS commended for Lanzones Fest victory, invited to join Sinulog Fest

THE Municipal Council of Mahinog on Monday adopted a resolution congratulating and commending Columbia St. Michael’s Parish High School (CSMPHS) for retaining the championship title in the 2010 Camiguin Lanzones Festival held recently in Mambajao, Camiguin.

In SB Resolution No. 129, the councilors said CSMPHS showed once again the "spirit of beauty and the best of every Mahinognon”.

“Through this historic win, Mahinog will once again be remembered as the 'home of the winners' and a place of 'beauty and the best,' when it successfully retained its championship title in the recently held Camiguin Lanzones Festival,” the council resolution read.

In said resolution authored by Councilor Liberato E. Babanto, the Municipal Council also expressed their gratitude and appreciation to award-winning choreographer Harold Antallan from Surigao for bringing Mahinog contingents to two-year successive wins in Lanzones Festival tableau competition.

The Council said “such feat and distinction merit commendation from this august Body for the pride and recognition they brought our municipality.”

The resolution which was co-authored by Councilor Jorene G. Salvaleon, was unanimously approved by all members of the 18th Municipal Council presided by Vice Mayor Rogerio C. Acle.

In a related development, the office of the municipal mayor of Mahinog yesterday received an official invitation from Cebu City Mayor Michael Rama to join the 2011 Sinulog Grand Parade.

"The Sinulog Foundation, Inc. and the Cebu City Government would like to invite your LGU to join the 2011 Sinulog Grand Parade which will be held on January 16, 2011," Rama said in his letter to Mayor Alex R. Jajalla.

As of this writing, no official confirmation yet has been released by local authorities on the said invitation.

Camiguin Lanzones Festival winner: Mahinog retains championship title in tableau competition

October 24, 2010 – AFTER making a vow to regain the prestigious title in Camiguin Lanzones Festival tableau competition, finally the Columbia St. Michael's Parish High School contingent sponsored by the local government unit of Mahinog made it again as this year’s champion in yesterday’s 2010 Camiguin Lanzones Festival, besting 7 other contingents in the inter-agency category.

The competition was very tough most notably between Mahinog and Sagay. But the winner must be declared and it was Mahinog who made (deserved) it. Sagay was awarded second placer, while Yumbing National High School, third placer.

“It was a sweet victory for Mahinog,” Mayor Alex R. Jajalla told Mahinog Trumpet. Jajalla thanked all the Mahinognons for their prayers.

Asked why he was confident Mahinog would retain the title, “Through preparation, hard practice and strong determination have made these things possible,” he said.

Mahinog contingent, choreographed by multi-awarded Surigaonon Harold Antallan, impressed the crowd with their clean transition, fast-paced dance steps, lot of moves and surprises, and magical props, among others . Mahinog was also declared as the liveliest contingent.

In street dance competition, Fatima College of Camiguin grabbed the first place, Mahinog got the second place, while Guinsiliban, third place.

Award-winning Lanzones Fest choreographer cited


Mahinog, Camiguin - Mr. Harold B. Antallan, director and choreographer of Mahinog contingent to the Camiguin Lanzones Festival was commended by the Mahinog Municipal Council for his invaluable services, magnanimous contribution and impeccable talent that led to the victory of Mahinog contingent in tableau and street dancing competitions of this year’s Camiguin Lanzones Festival.

The Council further recognized Antallan for bringing honor, pride and prestige to this municipality. Antallan, a Surigaonon, is a choreographer of Mahinog for the past two years.

He was awarded Best Choreographer in this year’s lanzones festival.

As choreographer, he received several grand prize awards in major Philippine festivals such as Bonok-Bonok in Surigao City, Sangyaw in Tacloban, Kahimunan in Butuan City and Kaamulan in Bukidnon, among others.

He was also awarded the top 10 choreographer at Cebu Sinulog Festival two times in 2004 and 2005. (Homer R. Jajalla – Mahinog Information Office)

Mahinog contingent reigns in 2009 Camiguin Lanzones Festival



CONTINGENTS from the Municipality of Mahinog won the tableau competition of this year’s Camiguin Lanzones Festival in Mambajao, Camiguin, besting 7 other contingents.

The Mahinog contingent impressed thousands of spectators including Cebu City Mayor Tomas Osmeña who witnessed the tableau competition of the Camiguin Lanzones Festival, one of the grandest and colorful festivals in the Philippines.

The Mahinog contingent, represented by the students from Columbia St. Michael’s Parish High School, also regained its third consecutive win in the street dancing competition.

Camiguin Congressman Pedro P. Romualdo who was also impressed by Mahinog’s performance said it was “the best performance ever” in the 30 years of Camiguin Lanzones Festival.

The other winners in the tableau competition were: the previous year’s champion Yumbing National High School, 2nd place; Camiguin Polytechnic State College, 3rd place.

In street dancing category, the other winners were: Fatima College of Camiguin, 2nd place; Yumbing National High School, 3rd place.

Mahinog also bagged the Mutya sa Buahanan 2009 title in the person of Miss Ivy Mirzi T. Javier, the reigning Miss Mahinog 2009.

The other awards received by Mahinog contingent were: Best in Festival Queen Individual Showdown (Bea H. Reyes); Festival Queen, 2nd placer; Best in Festival Queen Headdress; Diwata Showdown, 2nd placer; Music Showdown, 2nd placer.

In Kalanrakas sa Camiguin 2009, Mahinog Central School, 2nd place while Pontod, Mahinog Elementary School, 3rd place. 1st place went to Mambajao Central School. The liveliest contingent went to Mahinog Central School who was also 3rd placer in Kalanrakas Queen.

“This is one shining moment in the history of Mahinog,” Mayor Alex R. Jajalla quickly said when asked how he felt for Mahinog having emerged as the grand champion in this year’s Lanzones Festival.

Mahinog Response 143 gets another Gawad Kalasag Award

FRESH from being a winner of Gawad KALASAG in 2008, the Mahinog RESPONSE 143 is adjudged again as the Gawad KALASAG Awardee for 2009 as Outstanding and Best Volunteer Organization in Region X.

The award was given by National Disaster Coordinating Council (NDCC) Executive Officer Glenn Rabonza during the culmination of the observance of the 2009 National Disaster Consciousness Month last July 28, 2009 at Grand Caprice Restaurant, Limketkai Center, Cagayan de Oro City.

KALASAG, which stands for Kalamidad at Sakuna Labanan, Sariling Galing ang Kaligtasan, is annual recognition of an individual or institution for excellence in disaster management and humanitarian assistance sponsored by the National Disaster Coordinating Council (NDCC).

Mahinog RESPONSE 143, a volunteer disaster response group based in the town of Mahinog, in the province of Camiguin, was recognized by the Regional Disaster Coordinating Council (RDCC) for its outstanding performance as major stakeholder and partner of the RDCC in the implementation of the disaster risk management and humanitarian assistance in the region.

The award was signed by Carmilito A. Lupo, Regional Director, Office of Civil Defense and Executive Officer, RDCC X and Vice Chairman of the Gawad Kalasag Selection Committee;

Loreto T. Bhagwani, Regional Director, Department of Interior and Local Government (DILG), Vice Chairman, RDCC X and Chairman of the Gawad Kalasag Selection Committee; and

Police Chief Superintendent Danilo T. Empedrad, Regional Director, Police Regional Office X and Chairman of the Regional Disaster Coordinating Council X.

Receiving the award was Kaiser A. Abao, Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of Mahinog Response 143. He was accompanied Vice Chairperson Bibian A. Abbu, Secretary Adelma Concepcion F. Maestrado, Responders Chastine Rapliza and Henry Ramires. (Mahinog Information Office)
