PESO announces opening of summer job for students

Mahinog, Camiguin (2 Feb) – The Municipal Government through the Public Employment Service Office (PESO) has started accepting applicants for the 2010 Special Program for the Employment of Students (SPES).

This was learned from Ms. Elvira V. Capagngan, municipal PESO manager here.

She also said that due to the limited number of SPES slots in the municipality, applicants may apply at PESO provincial office at Capitol Compound.

The provincial government is accepting applicants starting February 1 and the employment will start on April 5, 2010, according to an advisory issued by the provincial government.

Capagngan said the SPES program helps poor students finish their education through wages they earned during the summer and Christmas breaks, adding that at least 60% of the salary will be paid by the local government unit in cash and the remaining 40% of the salary will be paid by the Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE) in the form of education voucher to the student to pay for their tuition fees and other educational expenses for the coming school year.

She announced the SPES is open to all qualified high school, college or vocational students or drop-outs, at least fifteen (15) years of age, but not more than 25 years old, enrolled during the current school term or immediately preceding the summer vacation, with parents’ combined net income after tax not exceeding Php36,000.00 per annum.

For Mahinog alone, more than 56 students were given employment in 2009 under the SPES and Government Internship Programs (GIP) where 60% and 75% of their salaries, respectively, were paid by the municipal government and the remainder from DOLE.

SPES is implemented annually by DOLE through the PESO and the Local Government Unit (LGU). (Homer R. Jajalla, Mahinog Information Office)

  3. hehe i like your comment. very frank and straight. i agree with you. but unlike many people think there are people coming from the opposition who are also being accommodated, even in employment in government. these people have made the right decision in severing their ties from the oppossition and support for a good governance and massive progress in camiguin under the present leadership of gov/cong romualdos and alex jajalla, which never happened during the time when these people in the opposition once governed the province.

Siguro kay dili man ta mag tug an sa atong tinood nga ngan dinhi. Daghang salamat.

  27. unsa kuno? ang mga karaan nga mga contractual sa munisipyo naanam ug kawala kay nagita ug mas maayo nga employer kay kuno sila nga nauna naulahe, ang naulahe nauna, kay kuno taga hubangon o san jose? wake up! kung mao man galing na nganong botaran pa man ninyo ang kasamtangang mayor karon nga bias man di ay... dili mahimo nga ang atong munisipyo taga hubangon ang mag-una... wake up taga poblacion, ug ubang dapit dili kana ilaha!!

    ReplyDelete
  28. to lalang;
ngano man? taga poblacion diay ang tag-iya sa munisepyo? joker.

    ReplyDelete
  29. to lalang: i just drop by but i cant help react your comment. grave na man sad ka. pls. be fair and objective in your comment. Ingon ka in your opening "unsa kuno?"... kuno ra man diay nang imo way klaro. pls check your facts before you write. for your information i made personal investigation about the issue you have raised: regarding the alleged "mga contractual sa munisipyo naanam ug kawala kay nangita ug mas maayo nga employer kay kuno sila nga nauna naulahe, ang naulahe nauna" … there is no truth to that! well, bisan pag naay "nauna naulahe, ang naulahe nauna" we cannot question that because that is the prerogative of the mayor as the appointing authority. Appointments are based on educational qualification, merit and fitness, and guided by the rules and regulation issued by the civil service commission. Basin wala sila mo qualify pud. Pero just the same it is the mayor who will make the choice if daghan nag apply ug qualified. On the issue "dili mahimo nga ang atong munisipyo taga hubangon ang mag-una..." I don’t think so. Please check you facts again. hinoon naa may ato makita taga hubangon (di man daghan oi)but they were employed before mayor alex became mayor. there are 2 or 3 new employees from hubangon now, as there are those who also come from other other barangays. lalang walay diay katungod taga hubangon manarbaho sa municipyo tungod kay ang mayor taga hubangon? In fairness to mayor alex he is a good mayor, has the political will to run mahinog for good, and for that he deserved to be re-elected. salamat.
